PAUL WHITEHEAD – GENESIS / THE MUSICAL BOX
Signed lithograph, numbered and annotated by the artist – Exceptional provenance
I am offering for sale this rare lithograph by Paul Whitehead devoted to the world of Genesis, size 70 × 39 cm, numbered and signed by the artist.
The copy is enriched with an original handwritten annotation by Paul Whitehead, directly referring to the song “The Musical Box,” with the famous line:
« xxx, the nurse will tell you lies »
PAUL WHITEHEAD AND GENESIS
Paul Whitehead holds an essential place in the visual history of Genesis.
He is the author of the original illustrations for the album covers of three major group albums from the Peter Gabriel era:
* Trespass (1970)
* Nursery Cryme (1971)
* Foxtrot (1972)
His work has become inseparable from the visual identity of Genesis in the 1970s.
The reference to The Musical Box is particularly relevant since this song, which opens Nursery Cryme, is directly associated with the graphic universe imagined by Whitehead for the album.
A PARTICULARLY DOCUMENTED PROVENANCE
This lithograph was obtained directly at the end of The Musical Box concert at La Cigale, in Paris, on October 26, 2003.
It is accompanied by documents allowing to establish this provenance:
* original ticket from the October 26, 2003 concert;
* original tour poster;
* original lithograph, numbered and signed;
* handwritten annotation by Paul Whitehead.
The ticket and the poster will be included with the lithograph.
This provenance gives the piece a special interest for a collector of Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Paul Whitehead or The Musical Box.
The peculiarity of this copy lies, however, in its original handwritten annotation, as well as in its provenance directly linked to a concert by The Musical Box.
It is therefore not merely a signed print, but a piece accompanied by a personal and documented provenance dating back to 2003.
Dimensions: 70 × 39 cm
Condition: very good condition, see photographs.
A particularly interesting piece for fans and collectors of Genesis and the history of British progressive rock, but also for collectors of Paul Whitehead and The Musical Box
The lot will be sold with the original concert ticket and the tour poster shown in the photographs.
