AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Antique Victorian Silver-Mounted Walking Cane – Chester & London 1897

An elegant late Victorian walking cane of distinctive natural form, mounted with richly decorated sterling silver fittings.
The cane features a naturally curved crook handle and a warm-toned wooden shaft retaining its original knots, irregularities and attractive aged patina. The handle is finished with an elaborate silver terminal decorated with scrolling foliate ornament, while a substantial matching silver collar is similarly embossed with dense scrolling decoration.

The silver collar bears clear British hallmarks for Chester, 1897, while the silver terminal bears hallmarks for London, 1897. The two silver mounts therefore date to the same year but were assayed at different British assay offices.

A particularly decorative example, combining the organic character of the natural-form shaft with finely worked late Victorian silver mounts.
