19th century Chinese Export silver-mounted Malacca walking cane, c. 1880–1900

A striking late 19th century Chinese Export walking cane, the Malacca shaft surmounted by a finely worked repoussé silver handle. The mount is richly decorated in high relief with a continuous narrative garden scene, populated by figures amongst trees and traditional architecture, creating an intricate composition that unfolds around the handle.

The top is framed by finely engraved Victorian-style foliate decoration and bears the period ownership inscription “Rev. W.M. Lauder”, executed in an elegant Victorian script, adding both decorative refinement and an intriguing personal dimension to the piece. The knob has been acid tested for silver.

In good antique condition, with an attractive patina consistent with age and use. The silver mount retains crisp definition to the narrative decoration, with some surface wear, light scratching and occasional minor dents. The Malacca shaft has a warm, naturally aged surface with expected marks and wear from use. The mount remains well presented overall.
