Description from the seller
Antique English Sterling Silver Walking Cane – Engraved Monogram – London – c.1900
An elegant antique English walking cane dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The cane features a substantial sterling silver knob handle, richly decorated with embossed and chased scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The top is finished with a plain cartouche bearing an elegant hand-engraved period monogram.
The silver bears partially worn London hallmarks. The maker’s mark and date letter are indistinct, therefore no precise maker or year attribution is given. The handle is mounted on a warm-toned wooden shaft displaying attractive age-related colour variation and a well-developed patina.
Condition is consistent with age and use. The silver handle has a visible vertical split, as clearly shown in the photographs. The wooden shaft shows surface wear, marks and areas of deterioration, particularly towards the lower end.
