Terri Weifenbach – Hunter Green – Nazraeli Press – 2000
Hunter Green is the second monograph by American photographer Terri Weifenbach, published by Nazraeli Press in 2000, following her acclaimed debut book In Your Dreams.
Photographed largely in gardens and around the natural environment, Weifenbach’s images transform familiar plants, flowers, insects and patches of sunlight into an intensely atmospheric world. Using selective focus, vivid color and unusual shifts in scale and perspective, she creates photographs that hover between direct observation and dreamlike abstraction.
The book contains 30 full-page color photographs and continues the distinctive visual language established in In Your Dreams: foregrounds dissolve into soft color, small details become monumental, and ordinary backyard vegetation takes on an almost mysterious presence.
With an introductory text by Yayako Uchida, Hunter Green is an important early publication in Weifenbach’s career and one of the key books in her exploration of gardens, perception, memory and the natural world.
