1966 Panama Silver Balboa – Vasco Núñez de Balboa
A striking 1966 Panamanian silver coin featuring Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the Spanish explorer after whom Panama's national currency, the Balboa, was named.
The obverse presents a detailed portrait of Balboa in profile, wearing a conquistador's helmet and armour, surrounded by the inscription “VASCO NÚÑEZ DE BALBOA.” The reverse features the national coat of arms of the Republic of Panama, accompanied by the inscription “REPÚBLICA DE PANAMÁ” and the date 1966.
The coin has an attractive aged silver appearance with visible surface toning and signs of circulation consistent with its age.
