Description from the seller
Beautiful pair of French curtain brackets from the second half of the 19th century, Napoleon III, in gilded bronze.
The initials "AD": They correspond to the maker's mark or the French master founder (fondeur) responsible for casting the bronze. In the antique market, pieces marked with "AD" are often associated with high-quality Parisian foundries active in the 19th century.
The number "2276": It is the catalog or model number of the piece. At the time, French foundries kept strict numerical records for their decorative molds, which allowed customers to order additional pairs or identical matching pieces through the foundry's catalog.
The fixing bar: The horizontally cast bar integrated into the metal served to fit the clamp onto a hook or metal bracket pre-screwed to the wall. The upper hole provided an extra fastening point to ensure stability against the weight of the curtains.
Both are in fairly good condition.
