AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful antique brass match holder – richly decorated – Historicism / Neo-Renaissance

A particularly decorative wall-mounted brass match holder, with an impressive amount of ornamentation. A wonderful utilitarian object from a time when even a simple match box had a striking place in the interior.

The holder is richly adorned with relief decorations, scroll and volute motifs, and figurative masks. At the top there is a distinctive bearded man's head, surrounded by graceful volutes. At the bottom, a beautifully crafted face is also depicted. The central section contains the actual holder in which a standard matchbox can be placed.

Below the match holder lies a semicircular tray, presumably intended for used matches. Through its openwork construction and the abundance of ornamentation, the piece has a pronounced historicist/Neo-Renaissance appearance.

The brass has developed an attractive natural patina over the years, which makes the reliefs and recessed parts stand out even more.

A particularly decorative object that forms a real eye-catcher both as an original utilitarian item and as wall decor. Very suitable for a classical interior, beside a fireplace or stove, but also interesting for collectors of antique household objects and brass pieces.
