French glass pendulum clock with a visible Brocot escapement, 8-day movement in brass and glass, dating to around 1870 with a 2024 bespoke borosilicate glass case.
Description from the seller
Unique glass pendulum clock with visible Brocot escapement (circa 1870)
This exceptional glass pendulum clock with visible Brocot escapement unites French clockmaking craftsmanship of the late 19th century with a modern, hand-crafted glass architecture. The movement originates from France; it has been expertly restored and subsequently housed in a custom-made borosilicate glass case, crafted in 2024 by a master glazier as a single piece.
The movement features a classic Brocot escapement, equipped with two jewels, visibly presented in a finely worked bezel. The two-part, cloisonné dial is in pristine condition and bears original Breguet hands, underscoring the historical authenticity of the mechanism.
The French 8-day movement is fully functional and can be finely regulated via a small square. The strike work on the hour and half-hour rings a bronze bell with a clear, pleasant tone. The compensating pendulum adds to the technical quality and ensures stable running characteristics.
The faceted case of borosilicate glass offers a complete view of the movement and gives the pendulum a skeleton-like presence. With a glass case, it is both decorative and technically impressive.
Overall, this is a rare combination of antique mechanics and contemporary glass design – a one-of-a-kind piece that is of particular interest to collectors of historical timepieces as well as enthusiasts of modern object art.
