Description from the seller
Rare Elite Ensemble from the 1930s: Monumental King-Size Sheet and Two Coordinated Pillow Shams in Richelieu Style Hand-embroidered Filet Crochet
Beautiful king-size bed set dating to around the 1930s, an authentic textile craftsmanship masterpiece and high artisan tailoring of the era.
The sheet measures very large dimensions of 300 x 280 cm in top-quality antique cotton yarn, heavy and durable. The body of the sheet is not a single industrial sheet, but is masterfully composed of the union of three parts along the length. The seams are joined with tailoring stitches executed entirely by hand, with ultra-fine, practically invisible stitches, a typical feature of artisanal work on looms of the era.
The upper hem is enriched with a sumptuous Richelieu-style hand-embroidered applique. Inside the cutout are inserted 38 large, rich floral motifs (diameter 10 cm) with 8 petals, all worked in filet crochet. The fusion of Richelieu cutwork with the filet net insert represents the apex of textile mastery of the period.
The set is complete with its two coordinating pillow shams in exactly the same yarn and fabric as the base. Each sham shows a remarkable density of workmanship, decorated with 46 flowers each (diameter 7 cm) using the same cutwork and filet technique, for a total of 92 hand-worked micro-inserts.
Condition: The set is in excellent overall condition; the fabric is solid and the white is pristine. Only, for utmost precision and transparency, a tiny spot (likely rust or from a chest) of a few millimeters in diameter on one of the two shams is noted. A unique piece for a high-end collection.
