Description from the seller

Large hand-painted ceramic marine panel – 25 tiles – Piscitello – Santo Stefano di Camastra – early 2000s

Important and scenographic decorative panel in Sicilian artistic ceramic, composed of 25 tiles painted entirely by hand, many with relief, each tile measuring about 20 × 20 cm.

The tiles, laid side by side, form a single large figurative composition devoted to the marine world. At the center of the scene dominates a large red coral, around which a lively seabed populated by numerous multicolored fish, octopuses, a jellyfish, a seahorse, starfish, crustaceans and other elements of marine fauna develop.

The lower part of the composition depicts the sandy seabed, enriched by aquatic vegetation, shells, amphorae and rocks, while the upper part opens into a bright marine environment in shades of blue. The large central coral creates the visual focal point of the entire work and harmoniously connects the different tiles.

Particularly characteristic is the rich decoration of the fish, made with ornamental motifs and vivid colors in tones of red, blue, green, yellow, black and white. The hand-made workmanship is clearly perceptible in the brushstrokes, the color variations and the small differences between the individual elements, characteristics typical of a handcrafted work.

The work is attributed to the historic Piscitello manufactory and can be traced, for stylistic and decorative characteristics, to the production of Santo Stefano di Camastra in the early 2000s.

The lot is also accompanied by an Authenticity Certificate issued by the Piscitello company, attesting to the originality of the work and its dating to the early 2000s.

Antonino Piscitello was a multi-prize-winning artist, protagonist of important fairs and exhibitions in Italy and abroad (London, Paris, Munich, New York, Chicago, Milan and Florence). In 2006 he was officially recognized as a “Living Human Treasure” and was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list for Sicily.

The composition consists of 25 tiles of about 20 × 20 cm each.
