Italian mid-century bamboo and rattan bistro set with two chairs and a reading rack – circa 1960–1970

Very atmospheric and decorative vintage bistro set, consisting of an oval table, two matching chairs, and a separate reading rack. The set is executed in curved bamboo and rattan and dates from circa 1960–1970.

The design closely follows the Italian mid-century bamboo and rattan design tradition, with organically curved lines, decorative wrapped connections, and fine wickerwork. The combination of natural materials and elegant curved forms gives the set a distinctive character.

The oval table features a nicely rounded top and a decorative base of curved bamboo. Under the tabletop there is an open, woven étagère/shelf. The two matching chairs are crafted in the same style, with curved bamboo/rattan frames, woven seats, and decorative wickerwork in the backrests.

A particularly attractive component of the set is the matching reading rack, made of curved bamboo and rattan. Together with the table and chairs, it forms a beautiful and harmonious whole and emphasizes the original mid-century character of the set.

The design shows affinities with Italian bamboo and rattan design from this period, including the design tradition around Franco Albini. The set is not specifically attributed to Albini, as there is no hallmark or documentation available.
