Pierre Bourgeade was a close friend and confidant of the great Surrealist photographer and visual artist Man Ray (1890–1976), with whom he notably published a book of conversations and interviews. Both shared a fascination with the aesthetics of the nude, eroticism, and the black-and-white photographic avant-garde; they collaborated on portfolios and limited-edition art books. For his part, Pierre Bourgeade published around forty plays, some of which made a significant mark on contemporary theater upon their staging. He also wrote poetry, most often of an erotic nature.
