Muslim Prayer Manuscript is a one-page Arabic devotional manuscript dating from around 1805, in good condition, measuring 13 cm by 6.5 cm.
Description from the seller
A finely illuminated Arabic devotional manuscript, the opening page to a dispersed prayer book, containing the Basmala followed by prayers of praise and reflection, including the declaration: "there is no turn bliss except the bliss of the Hereafter". The text serves as an introduction to the collection of supplications and pious remembrances (adhkar), empty sailing devotion, gratitude to God, spiritual reward, and preparation for the life to come.
Executed in elegant black naskh script within gold-ruled panels and surrounded by richly coloured floral illumination, the manuscript reflects the refined Persianate artistic traditions that flourished across Kashmir and the wider Indo-Islamic world. The illuminated headpiece (sarlawh) is particularly fine, consisting of a central lozenge enclosed within an interlacing floral medallion beneath a trefoil arch. The title cartouche isset in gold creating a striking visual transition between the ornamental frontpiece and the sacred text below.
the manuscript embodies the central themes of Islamic spirituality: praise of God, remembrance, moral reflection, and hope for divine grace.
