Pair of carved and gilded wood Baroque mirrors (old reliquary) – 18th century
Important pair of decorative mirrors (75 cm) in carved, pierced and gilded wood, of Baroque style, probably Italy, 18th century.
The composition, particularly rich, features a symmetrical decoration of large supports, acanthus leaves and scrolls, topped by an imposing open carved crown. Each mirror is made up of three oval panes of different dimensions, integrated into the pierced surround.
The lower part rests on an architectural base painted and gilded, adorned with stylized motifs. The back clearly reveals the old wooden construction as well as the mirror fixings.
Condition: good overall given the age. Wear, small losses, cracks and retouches to the gilding and polychromy, perfectly visible in the photographs. These traces contribute to the patina and the antique character of the piece.
