Thumbrests in East African traditional art
There is little figurative art in East Africa due to the Islamization of the region. Sculptors have therefore designed everyday objects that are highly regarded for their variety and their sober, contemporary appearance, particularly the thumbrests and headrests.

This one, made of light wood, consists of a curved seat supported by three legs. At the ends of the seat there are animal representations. Small brass nails decorate the piece.
