Neck rests in traditional East African art
There is little figurative art in East Africa due to the Islamization of the region. Sculptors have, therefore, designed everyday objects reputed for their variety and their sober, contemporary appearance, especially neck rests and headrests.

This one, made of lightweight wood, consists of a curved seat supported by three legs. At the ends of the seat are animal representations. Small brass nails decorate the piece.

On retrouve peu d'art figuratif en Afrique de l'Est du fait de l'islamisation de la région. Les sculpteurs ont de ce fait conçu des objets usuels très réputés pour leur variété et leur allure sobre et contemporaine, en particulier les appuie-nuques et repose-têtes.

Celui-ci, en bois léger, est constitué d'une assise incurvée soutenue par trois pieds. On retrouve aux extrémités de l'assise des représentations animales. Des petits clous en laiton décorent la pièce.
