Antique mantel clock in vein-marbled green marble with a 1910–1920 estimated period, featuring a mechanical, 8-day movement, a gilded metal bezel, an enamel dial with floral motifs, and a demi-heure strike on a single gong, powered by a winding key and measuring 15 cm high, 12 cm wide, 8 cm deep and weighing 4 kg; origin France, in working order with some age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Antique veined marble clock – functional mechanical movement – early 20th century
Beautiful old mantle clock made of light marble heavily veined with green, resting on four decorative metal feet.
The model features a very typical architecture of French clocks from the late 19th / early 20th century, with an imposing marble body, a metal gilt lunette and a enamel dial decorated with floral motifs.
The dial bears black Arabic numerals as well as a peripheral minute track. The hands are elaborately formed metal.
The clock has a mechanical key-wound movement. The mechanism has been tested and currently functions. The clock is supplied with its pendulum as well as a winding key, visible in the photographs.
The rear part preserves its perforated metal cover.
Condition
Antique clock sold in its current condition.
It shows several signs related to its age and use:
- some chips and nicks visible on the marble, notably on certain edges and rims;
- traces of former restorations or fittings;
- oxidation and patina on the metal elements;
- several decorative elements appear to be missing today;
- no signature or maker’s mark identified.
Despite these flaws, the piece retains a very handsome decorative presence, and its veined marble gives it a lot of character.
The movement runs when tested prior to sale, but given the clock’s age, no guarantee of accuracy or running duration can be provided. A revision by a clockmaker could be considered for regular use.
An interesting antique marble clock, ideal for a collector, lover of antique clockmaking, or restoration project.
