Mosasaurus fin specimen from the Upper Cretaceous (100.5–66 million years ago) preserved in natural matrix, complete and original with articulated metacarpals/metatarsals and phalanges, weight 7.5 kg, 56 cm high, 24 cm wide, 10 cm deep, originating from Morocco.
Description from the seller
Original mosasaur fin in a 100% natural matrix, unaltered
An exceptionally well-preserved and fully articulated mosasaur fin, with dimensions of 56 cm in height and 24 cm in width. The piece clearly preserves the series of metacarpals/metatarsals and phalanges, forming the functional fin that propelled this marine predator through the seas of the Late Cretaceous. It possesses all the bones present in the mosasaur fin; it is a complete specimen, as well as the wrist bones being complete.
In addition to the hand bones, this matrix also presents part of the animal’s body, with 7 ribs visible. It is a completely original specimen, with the bones associated, i.e., all belonging to the same animal that swam about 100 million years ago. Complete. Very rare.
Extracted from the Oulad Abdoun Basin, Layer 3, Hamza, Morocco.
CRETACEOUS
Originating from the phosphate deposits of Morocco, the piece presents the bones arranged naturally and preserved in their original matrix, without any alteration.
This type of specimen carries a high value due to the difficulty of fossilizing the bones of the fins together without separating after the animal’s decomposition or subsequent mineralization of the fin bones. Since the bones are very small and easily separate. Skulls, jaws, vertebrae, and isolated mosasaur fins are relatively common on the market, but a fin is a rare specimen, and a fin with all of its bones fossilized together is an even rarer specimen. Authentic, fully articulated oars (fins) like this rarely appear on the market.
Sold with an authenticity, provenance, and traceability certificate.
