Description from the seller
Beautiful, very large XXL conch with a bright coloration, Charonia tritonis - colloquial name trumpet Triton or giant Triton, it is a species of a very large sea snail, a mollusk from the family Charoniidae, tritons. It is one of the largest mollusks on a coral reef. The shell is thick and heavy, strongly coiled in the shape of an elongated tower. It ends sharply at the summit, gradually widening toward the aperture.
Strongly ribbed, with prominent spiral ribs and knobs. The shell color most often yellowish, cream or brown with irregular, darker spots and streaks. The aperture (shell opening) large, wide, oval.
The interior is smooth, often orange, pink or reddish-brown, contrasting with the exterior side of the shell. The outer lip is thick, sometimes wavy, often with delicate serrations.
Distinctive features — due to its large size and characteristic construction, it has been used in many cultures as a wind instrument (shell trumpet).
It is valued by collectors and has significance in art and rituals. Dimensions - 120 × 170 × 340 mm. Highly recommended for collectors and interior decorators.
