Description

A particularly decorative set of two vintage electrical clocks from Metamec, a well-known British clock manufacturer. Both examples feature a pronounced Mid-Century / 1950s-60s design and are offered together.

Large Metamec wall clock

The larger clock is a circular electric wall clock with a beautiful two-tone dial in cream and pale pink/salmon hues. The raised Arabic numerals and slender hands give the clock a distinctive post-war retro look.

On the dial it says METAMEC and at the bottom MADE IN ENGLAND.

The combination of the simple round case, pastel colors and the typical numeral style makes this an attractive example of British Mid-Century design.

Small Metamec table-/mantel clock

The second example is a compact electric clock with a angular cream-colored case and round dial. METAMEC is also printed on the dial.

The design, with a subtly flaring case, metal decorative rim and red/pink hour marks, clearly fits the 1950s and early 1960s design. At the bottom there is a base, indicating it is intended as a table, desk or mantel clock.

Electrical operation

Both clocks are equipped with a mains-powered clock movement and retain their original/old electrical wiring and plugs.

Due to the age of the electrical components, the clocks are offered as not electrically tested. The old cords, plugs and internal electrical components should be checked by a qualified person before connection to the mains. No guarantee is given on operation or electrical safety.

Metamec was a British manufacturer best known for its large production of household clocks throughout the 20th century. These two models are representative of the post-war design.

Condition

Both clocks are in authentic used vintage condition with visible age and wear. There are, among other things, minor scratches, discoloration, grime and wear. The outer edge of the large clock shows clear patination/oxidation.

The dials and numerals remain visually appealing given their age.

Electrical operation is unknown and not tested. Because of the old wiring, the clocks should be checked before use.
