Coffee and tea service - Silverplated - NO RESERVE

Silver plated four piece tea and coffee service by George E. Hawkins & Co of Birmingham, the bombe bodies chased with rococo scrolls and flowerheads on a matted ground.

The service comprises a teapot, a coffee pot, a twin handled sugar bowl and a cream jug. Each stands on a stepped circular foot and swells to a full bombe body, and each is chased around the shoulder and the lower body with scrolling foliage, flowerheads and cartouches worked against a matted ground, leaving broad plain reserves polished bright between them.

The teapot and the coffee pot keep their original ebonised handles and finials, which insulate the hand from the hot body. George E. Hawkins & Co registered their electroplate mark in Birmingham in 1887.

Each piece is struck to the base with the letters G E H beside a bird device and EPNS for electroplated nickel silver, with the pattern number 3364.

Good antique condition. The plate is bright throughout with light surface scratching consistent with use, the ebonised handles and finials sound, and all four covers sitting correctly.
