Description from the seller
Antique curved display cabinet – early 19th century, possibly Empire / early Biedermeier
Special antique, curved display cabinet with a characteristic semicircular form, originating from a family heirloom. The family history of the cabinet goes back to Germany, with connections to Berlin and Bavaria. The original provenance and maker are however not known with certainty.
Based on design, construction and detailing the cabinet appears to date from the early 19th century. The style shows clear classical features and possibly influences from the Empire period, perhaps around the transition to the early Biedermeier.
The cabinet has a striking curved front with glass doors, richly detailed black pilasters and profiles and a characteristic cornice. The warm grain of the veneered front contrasts nicely with the black architectural elements.
Also notable are the authentic old locks, key plates and the original fittings. The construction and the back clearly indicate that this is an old, artisanal piece of furniture.
The cabinet consists of two detachable parts and is therefore split for transport.
Dimensions:
* Total height: approx. 234 cm
* Depth: approx. 75 cm
* Height lower cabinet: approx. 87 cm
* Height upper section: approx. 147 cm
The cabinet is in an unrestored, lived-in condition. There are signs of aging, cracks, damage and traces of use and previous repairs. These marks are deliberately part of the character of the furniture. There has been no attempt to hide them or to restore the piece completely.
A special and decorative piece of furniture for collectors and lovers of early-19th-century European furniture.
Dating, maker and original provenance cannot be determined with certainty. The mentioned period is an expert estimate based on the design, construction and detailing.
