Description from the seller

Elegant and unusual oval silver box, made in Spain around 1940–1960 and attributed to the renowned Spanish goldsmith Francisco Veiro.

The lid features an elaborate relief decoration with a mythological and marine theme: a mermaid seated on a large fish, accompanied by another marine figure, on a background of stylized waves. The composition has a strongly sculptural character, with pronounced reliefs and numerous worked details.

The sides are also decorated with geometric and ornamental engraved motifs, creating an interesting contrast between the polished silver surfaces and the darkened areas of the reliefs.

The interior has a gilded finish, a feature that is particularly attractive and also creates an elegant contrast with the exterior in silver.

The piece bears goldsmith marks, corresponding to its Spanish manufacture and authorship.

Goldsmith: Francisco Vera
Origin: Spain
Era: mid-20th century, ca. 1940–1960
Material: silver, gilded interior
Weight: 37 g
Dimensions: 4 × 3 × 1.7 cm

A small piece of Spanish goldsmithing with decorative and collectible character, especially appealing for its marine and mythological iconography, the richness of the relief work, and its small dimensions
