AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Set of seven molded crystal plates signed Val Saint Lambert, from the "Diamants Pierreries" collection, the iconic model reproduced in the 1913 catalogue of the famous Belgian crystal maker. These pieces aptly illustrate the stylistic transition period at the start of the 20th century, at the crossroads of late Art Nouveau and the beginnings of Art Deco, where decorative research goes hand in hand with a growing geometrization of shapes and motifs.

Each plate features a particularly rich decoration obtained directly by crystal molding. The center is organized around a radiating star, surrounded by a dense network of small diamond-shaped forms and facets evoking a real diamond parure. This composition continues onto the wing with a remarkable geometric lattice pattern, rhythmically punctuated by fan panels or stylized palmettes. The border, deeply cut, alternates therefore between radiating motifs and fan elements, giving the plates an almost floral silhouette despite the overall geometric rigidity. The multiplication of facets produces a remarkable dispersion of light, characteristic of Val Saint Lambert’s work. Each piece bears at the center, depending on the example, the inscription “VAL ST LAMBERT BELGIQUE” or “DÉPOSÉ.”

The set is in excellent overall condition. Only one plate has a small flaw affecting one of the border palmettes, not compromising the overall aesthetics of the piece. There are also a few very light nicks at the base, discreet and not very visible. The reliefs and the vast majority of the edges are remarkably well preserved, with a beautiful transparency of the crystal.

The collection “Diamants Pierreries” testifies to Val Saint Lambert’s know-how in molded crystal from the early 20th century. Reproduced in the 1913 catalogue, it belongs to this particularly fruitful period during which the factory developed increasingly complex molded decorations, playing with the size, depth of reliefs, and light effects. With its vocabulary of facets, rays, diamonds, and stylized palmettes, this set constitutes a particularly representative example of the aesthetic evolution of the Belgian crystal maker on the eve of the First World War, between the last echoes of Art Nouveau and the geometric forms that would herald Art Deco.

Average dimensions are:
- Width: 12.5 centimeters,
- Height: 1.6 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 7.3 centimeters,
- Total weight: 1225 grams.

Each of the seven plates will be individually packed and the set will be shipped quickly in a secure manner. In-store pickup and combined delivery are available. Photos are part of the description.
