Hand-Painted Polychrome Delft Faience Vase Plateelbakkerij RAM, Arnhem, The Netherlands

A beautifully hand-painted Dutch faience vase produced by the renowned Plateelbakkerij RAM in Arnhem during the mid-20th century. The elegant baluster-shaped form is enriched with subtle vertical fluting, providing texture and enhancing the vivid floral decoration.

Entirely decorated by hand in a vibrant polychrome Delft palette, the vase features stylized tulips, blossoms, scrolling foliage, and traditional ornamental motifs outlined in black. While blue-and-white Delftware remains the best-known expression of Dutch ceramics, richly coloured examples such as this were produced in much smaller numbers and are encountered considerably less often today. The combination of cobalt blue, manganese purple, ochre, green, and soft pink creates a lively yet harmonious composition that reflects the enduring influence of historic Dutch faience.

Standing 22 cm tall, the vase is made of faience and remains in very good vintage condition. It displays a light, age-related craquelure to the glaze, a natural characteristic of glazed earthenware that has developed over time and does not detract from either its stability or decorative appeal.

Founded in Arnhem in 1921, Plateelbakkerij RAM became one of the Netherlands’ most respected ceramic manufacturers, producing both innovative art pottery and high-quality Delft-style wares. Following the Second World War, the factory earned a reputation for the exceptional quality of its hand-painted ceramics and was even selected to represent Dutch Delftware at international exhibitions. The company remained active until 1969, and its finely decorated pieces continue to be appreciated by collectors of Dutch decorative arts.
