Description from the seller
"La Petite Mort". Photos by Will Santillo, edited by and with foreword by Dian Hanson
This is the hardcover edition, with dust jacket and an "obi" (and not the softcover edition, which also exists)
First multilingual edition 2011 - 30 x 21 cm - Taschen - 210 pages - Hardcover with dust jacket and obi - Very good condition, with only some minor signs of wear on the dust jacket. The "obi" is fully intact and beautiful (see the attached photos).
The title means the little death, an euphemism for orgasm, but the women who exuberantly masturbate for the Toronto photographer Will Santillo in this book are one of the liveliest groups you will ever encounter. Santillo conceived the project 13 years ago to include a broad cross-section of women: from young to old, from slim to overweight, from perfect beauties to women who only became beautiful once seen through his lens. The only constant would be that each of them would decide and direct how they would reach an orgasm while he captured the moment.
From earlier projects with amateur subjects, Santillo had concluded that masturbation is a far more personal act than most sexual acts, because it happens almost exclusively in private. He wanted to reveal the diversity and creativity with which women approach self-stimulation, and portray the beauty of ordinary women in the grip of an orgasm—a beauty far richer than the male-oriented images in pornography.
Santillo says he seeks to reveal the hidden face of his models, and indeed, it is the faces that best convey the intensity of the reactions in these artistically explicit photos. These lush, sepia-toned images are framed by interviews by Dian Hanson with 37 of Santillo’s models. Their candid insights discuss overcoming inhibitions, giving in to exhibitionism, and achieving an orgasm for a stranger with a camera. For anyone curious about what the neighbor—or your own wife—gets up to in private life,
La Petite Mort is a breath of life.
