Description from the seller

Algerian Flissah

Description

An Algerian flissah dating from the first part of the 20th century, measuring approximately 39 cm in overall length.

The long, single-edged steel blade has a gently curved profile and a pointed tip. The section near the handle is decorated with hand-engraved linear and scalloped motifs, while two small notches are visible along the spine.

The shaped brass handle is richly engraved with repeating geometric and linear ornamentation and terminates in a broad, flared pommel. A visible age-related crack is present on one side of the brass handle. The handle may have been changed during its lifetime, as it is generally a brass "dog head" handle.

The knife is accompanied by its original elongated wooden scabbard, fitted with dark metal bands, a metal tip and a suspension ring. The wooden scabbard shows pronounced age-related splitting, open seams, surface wear and losses, all clearly visible in the photographs. The steel blade also displays oxidation and areas of surface corrosion consistent with its age.

The photographs are an integral part of the item description and condition report.

This item will be securely packed to ensure safe delivery.
