Antique metal pocket watch from the South Bend Watch Company, dating to the 1920s, with a 17‑jewel mechanical movement in a Dueber gold‑filled case, not running and in fair condition.
Description from the seller
An attractive and highly collectible South Bend Watch Company antique American pocket watch, fitted with a finely finished 17-jewel mechanical movement and housed in a period Dueber gold-filled pocket watch case warranted for 20 years.
The movement is clearly signed “South Bend Watch Co., South Bend, U.S.A., 17 Jewels” and carries movement serial number 501626. The decorated movement displays traditional American watchmaking craftsmanship, with damaskeened finishing, exposed gilt gearwork and visible jewel settings. South Bend watches are sought after by collectors of American pocket watches, railroad-era timepieces, vintage mechanical watches and early 20th-century horology.
The white dial has a highly legible and attractive design with large black Arabic numerals, a contrasting red five-minute outer track and a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The dial is signed South Bend and has the classic appearance associated with American pocket watches of the railroad era. Elegant blued hands complete the traditional design.
The open-face case is marked internally:
DUEBER
WARRANTED
20 YEARS
10374139
The “Warranted 20 Years” marking identifies the case as a period Dueber gold-filled case, rather than solid gold. Dueber was a major American manufacturer of pocket watch cases, and these gold-filled cases were widely used on quality American watches during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This South Bend pocket watch combines several desirable collector features: a signed South Bend dial, a 17-jewel American mechanical movement, movement serial number 501626, a period Dueber gold-filled case, subsidiary seconds display, blued hands and classic railroad-style Arabic numeral layout.
The watch is currently not running. It has not been professionally inspected or serviced, and the exact cause is unknown. It is therefore offered as an antique mechanical watch requiring service or repair, and no guarantee is given regarding timekeeping or future functionality.
The case shows scratches, surface marks and wear consistent with age and use. The dial shows minor age-related marks and imperfections visible in the photographs. The movement presents attractively but should be considered unserviced.
A good example for collectors searching for a South Bend pocket watch, antique American pocket watch, 17 jewel pocket watch, Dueber pocket watch case, gold-filled pocket watch, railroad style pocket watch, vintage mechanical watch, American railroad watch, early 1900s pocket watch, antique stem-wind watch, collectible American watch, watch for restoration or historic South Bend Watch Company timepiece.
