Description from the seller

Exceptional Asian textile art of the first half of the 20th century (Republican Era), executed faithfully following the sumptuous aesthetic and imperial canons of late Qing Dynasty. It is a large-format natural silk panel rich in symbolism, technical finesse, and extraordinary chromatic splendor.

Iconography and Cultural Theme: The work exquisitely and meticulously depicts the iconic celebration of Duanwu (Dragon Boat Festival). It presents four majestic vessels with dragon-head prows, where multiple individual rowers are embroidered with textured relief threads to simulate scales. Inland river banks detail a lively festive scene with figures dressed in traditional attire, pagodas, relief stone bridges, weeping willows, and ceremonial elements such as banners, lanterns, and wind instruments.

Haute Couture Work and Singular Finishes (Highly Laborious):

The main canvas is executed on delicate natural silk in imperial yellow.
The faces of the characters display a highly coveted classical craftsmanship: features and expressions outlined with matte black silk threads that imitate the expressive makeup of traditional Chinese Opera.
The perimeter of the yellow silk is bounded by a delicate floral textile trim applied and fully hand-sewn, noticeable in the meticulous mitered corners.
The piece is completed with an elegant burgundy profile and a sumptuous peripheral textile mat of thick fabric with a complex classical jacquard geometric pattern in bronze and olive green tones.
The reverse of the textile is perfectly protected with olive green protective silk, visible through the glass.

Premium Presentation and Framing: The piece is presented in an exclusive contemporary floating mounting with double translucent glass, allowing the silk to be admired suspended in air in its entirety and the olive green reverse to be appreciated. Framed in a black wooden structure with an inner gold trim that enhances the silk’s natural highlights. Ready to hang.

Total dimensions (with frame): 76 cm high x 45 cm wide.

Condition: Excellent preservation. The textile maintains magnificent tension and the colors retain all their original vividness. A piece of great artisanal refinement, ideal for discerning collectors of Oriental art.
