AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Jan Mankes, 1889-1920 Alied Ottevanger

Dimensions: hardbound book. 28 x 23 cm.

Condition: In very neat condition. Very light signs of use on the cover. See photos for further condition

This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Het Mankes Perspectief". It is part 22 in the series of monographs from the Drents Museum on artists from the period around 1900.

‘The oeuvre of Jan Mankes (Meppel, August 15, 1889 – Eerbeek, April 23, 1920) is characterized by a great love of nature and a particular attention to detail. In his short, but productive artistic life he has vividly depicted his sense of the flora and fauna in his surroundings. The quietness in his work is mainly reflected in his pure, restrained use of color and the balance of his compositions. The oeuvre of Mankes is modest in scope and comprises about two hundred paintings, a little over fifty prints, and well over a hundred sketches and drawings.

In Jan Mankes a complete overview of his oeuvre is described and illustrated, after two extensive chapters on the life and work of Mankes and on the – still growing – appreciation for him, in which much new information is provided.’
