Art Series: "Icons on Paper"
The “Icons on Paper” series explores defining images from music, film, and popular culture. Familiar visual references are not simply reproduced, but translated into a deliberately personal and expressive drawing language. Portraits, album references, cinematic scenes, and typographic elements come together in works that move between memory, homage, and free reinterpretation.
A defining characteristic of the series is the immediacy of the drawing itself. Visible lines, cross-hatching, irregular contours, and deliberately preserved sketch marks create the impression of pages taken from an artist’s sketchbook or hand-drawn studies. The predominantly restrained palette of black, grey, sepia, and rust tones reinforces the nostalgic atmosphere while recalling historical illustrations, vintage concert posters, and classic film and music artwork.
The individual works draw upon the collective memory of popular culture while removing familiar imagery from its original media context. This creates an intriguing contrast: icons originally made famous through photography, cinema, album covers, and mass reproduction reappear as intimate, almost analogue drawings on paper.
The visible texture of the paper, hand-drawn borders, and intentionally imperfect typography form an integral part of the visual language. They give each work the character of a discovered, timeworn, or personally archived fragment of memory.
Emma Wildfang is a young Pop-Art street artist. Her artworks are scattered in collections all over the world. She manages to create a very special vintage style. After attending the master class, the artist has been self-taught since 2002. Her constant search for new techniques and means of expression made it almost imperative for her to now also deal with spatial structures as a sculptor. Due to the restlessness and instability of her creative process she lives up to the name Wildfang. However, in all of her works, Wildfang does not seek the perfect, symmetrically idealised work, but instead finds beauty in the fragmented, in the detail, and in the enigmatic. Her way of working is to find perfection in the imperfect.
The artwork comes directly from the studio of the artist.
