The ethnic group of the Mbangani is located in the southern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), in the Zaire/Kongo region, on the border with Angola. Their art is heavily influenced by their neighbors, the Lunda, Chokwe, and Lulua, and is characterized by masks with large eyes and flat eyelids. These masks were used particularly during ceremonies related to the initiation of young men.
