Antique Chinese rug in Aubusson style – 240 × 145 cm
We present a lovely antique Chinese Aubusson-style rug, made approximately between 1940 and 1950.
Origin: China
Period: 1940–1950

Technique: traditional hand-tufting
Construction: 100% handmade
The rug is made using an ancient manual tufting technique, in which wool tufts are worked by hand on a cotton backing. On the back, the structure is stabilized with a traditional fixing compound that holds the tufts in place, and finally protected by a textile lining. The pile is worked and trimmed by hand, creating the attractive relief characteristic of this type of rug.
It features an elegant Aubusson-inspired floral design, with a delicate color combination and an appealing relief effect.
For its approximate age of 75–85 years, it is in fairly good overall condition.
The reverse protective lining shows dirt, stains and wear typical of the years, as clearly seen in the photographs.
