Description from the seller
Bernard Heesen – De Oude Horn – Monumental unique glass vase – 38 cm
Description
Beautiful and very rare, hand-blown art glass vase by the internationally renowned Dutch glass artist Bernard Heesen, made in his glass studio De Oude Horn.
The monumental vase has an exceptional, sculptural form with a large spherical belly and a notably long, yellow-iridescent neck. The body is rendered in warm pink, copper, and gold tones and richly wrapped with expressively applied glass threads and glass ribbons. Due to the iridescent sheen, the color play continuously changes under different lighting conditions.
Heesen is known for his free, experimental way of glassblowing, where spontaneity and the visible making process are central. His work is included in numerous museum collections such as Boijmans Van Beuningen and important private collections. Especially large, pronounced unique pieces like this one are rarely offered.
The vase is hand-signed on the bottom with a reference to De Oude Horn and Bernard Heesen.
Dimensions:
* Height: 38 cm
* Material: hand-blown art glass
* Provenance: Glassworks De Oude Horn, Netherlands
* Artist: Bernard Heesen
* Version: unique, handmade specimen
Condition:
The vase has been professionally restored in the past at the transition between the neck and the belly. Around this area and on the body, some portions of the delicate applied glass threads and glass ribbons are locally missing. The restoration and missing decorative parts are visible in the detail photos and are an explicit part of the condition description.
Despite these flaws, this remains a particularly decorative, imposing, and very rare work in a desirable form. The vase still presents impressively and is a real focal point within a Dutch studio glass collection.
Shipped with extreme care and double packaging. Due to the fragility and existing restoration, extra attention will be paid to protecting the neck and glass decoration.
