Vintage porcelain half-doll pincushion dating to the 1920s–1930s, with a porcelain figure mounted on a padded textile skirt in a vintage style.
Description from the seller
Antique Porcelain Half Doll Pincushion Lady Arms Raised Boudoir Doll c.1920s
Full listing description
Charming antique porcelain half doll / pincushion doll, probably dating from approximately the 1920s–1930s.
The porcelain figure depicts an elegant young lady with both arms dramatically raised to her hair. She has finely moulded grey curled hair falling down the back of her neck, delicate painted facial features and a pale pink bodice.
This is a particularly appealing pose for a half doll, with the arms completely separated from the body and open spaces beneath them. These projecting porcelain elements were vulnerable to damage, making intact surviving examples attractive to collectors.
The figure is mounted onto a traditional padded skirt/pincushion form and dressed in a full, flowing pale fabric skirt decorated with green and lilac floral sprays and dark scrolling floral motifs. Pink satin ribbons fall from the back.
The underside has a circular dark-covered base, with additional dark decorative trim visible beneath the skirt.
Measurements:
Porcelain doll section: approximately 6 cm high
Overall height including skirt: approximately 15 cm
Condition
The porcelain figure appears to be in good antique condition from the photographs. Importantly, both raised arms and hands appear present and intact. I cannot see an obvious major chip, crack or repair to the porcelain in the photographs.
There is age-related wear and discolouration to the fabric, together with some fraying/opening of the skirt at the rear and general wear consistent with age. The pink ribbons also show age and wear.
The costume may have been reworked or replaced during the doll’s lifetime, so I would not describe the textile portion as definitively original.
The underside and construction have been photographed so buyers can assess the piece fully.
Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition report.
A lovely decorative example with an especially attractive arms-to-hair pose, ideal for a collection of antique porcelain half dolls, pincushion dolls, boudoir dolls or vintage sewing collectibles.
Date: Circa 1920s–1930s
Material: Glazed porcelain, textile and padded base
Porcelain figure: approx. 6 cm
Overall height: approx. 15 cm
Maker: Unmarked / unknown
