In 1921, the year in which he participated with some ceramics in the I Biennale di Roma, he founded together with entrepreneur Umberto Focaccia the factory "Melandri-Focaccia".

In 1933 he participated with some ceramics in the Triennale di Milano.
Awarded at the Triennale d’Arte di Milano in 1936, in 1937 he achieved great success at the Exposition Universelle of Paris where he was recognized as the most important Italian ceramicist and where he was awarded the Grand Prize.
In the postwar period Melandri, with whom over the years the leading figures of 20th‑century ceramics collaborated, produced a rich and original output that, while drawing on the Faenza ceramic tradition, is charged with a strong and compelling modernity, making him one of the great master ceramists of the century.
Pietro Melandri, active until the age of 86, died in Faenza in 1976.
