Philips-attributed mid-century opaline glass pendant lamp, moulded with a black linear decor, Netherlands, circa 1965; diffuser height 32 cm, maximum diameter 20 cm, cord length about 45 cm, weight ~1 kg, E27 fitting, white electricity renewed and fully functional.
Description from the seller
Philips (attributed to) – Mid-Century pendant in molded opal glass with a black linear decor – Netherlands – Circa 1965
Elegant vintage pendant in white opal glass, characteristic of European design of the 1960s.
Its diffuser features a remarkable sculptural and tapering form, obtained by molding the glass. The surface is rhythmically marked by long vertical relief ribs and by a graphic decor consisting of fine irregular black threads.
When the pendant is lit, the opal glass diffuses a soft and warm light while highlighting the reliefs and the linear decor.
Attribution and dating
This pendant is attributed to Philips, Eindhoven, Netherlands, and can be dated to the 1960s, likely around 1965.
This attribution rests on comparison with several Philips pendants documented as having a similar shape, a molded glass technique, a black decor, and proportions very close. No maker’s mark is visible on this piece, so the attribution is given with the necessary caution.
Electricity
The electrical installation has been completely renewed:
* European E27 socket;
* new white electrical cable;
* white ceiling canopy;
* pendant tested and fully functional.
Dimensions
* height of the glass diffuser: 32 cm;
* maximum diameter: 20 cm;
* opening diameter: 9 cm;
* approximate cable length: 45 cm;
* total weight: about 1 kg.
Condition
Very good overall condition for a pendant dating from the 1960s.
The glass retains its beautiful opal appearance, its molded reliefs, and its original linear decor. Some small traces, irregularities, and superficial marks related to age may be observed, without harming the overall aesthetics or the use of the fixture.
Because the electrical system is new, the pendant is ready to install.
The photographs, taken from several angles and showing the luminaire both lit and unlit, are an integral part of the description and allow precise assessment of its condition.
Shipping
The pendant will be dismantled and packed with special care. The glass diffuser will be individually protected with several layers of suitable materials, then placed in reinforced packaging to ensure secure transport.
A beautiful example of European Mid-Century lighting, combining an organic silhouette, ribbed opal glass, and a rare black graphic decor.
