Pseudo Reportage is a rare and provocative early photobook by renowned Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, published by Byakuya Shobo with striking design by Akira Suei.Key Features and ContentVisual Subjects: The book features gritty, black-and-white photography capturing the underground and nightlife culture of Tokyo. This includes scenes of female boxers, dancers and workers in the sex clubs of the Shinjuku district, and staged photo shoots. True to its title, the book challenges the idea of photographic truth. Araki pairs quasi-documentary images with text and captions that are partly or entirely non-factual, questioning the reliability of the camera as an objective recorder of reality. Designed in collaboration with Akira Suei, this first edition is known for its distinct aesthetic, featuring bold typography and a vibrant fluorescent pink obi (paper wrap).
