Magical - beautifully designed - elegant
In spring 1907 Maffei was commissioned to build a Pacific/Consolidation-type locomotive for the Königlich Bayerische Staatseisenbahnen. Starting from the Badische "IV f" developed within the same company, Maffei created the Bavarian S 3/6, which, distinguished by its timelessly chic appearance and especially by its combined 4-cylinder drive, would quickly enchant generations of railway enthusiasts.
Example: Express steam locomotive from the Bavarian S 3/6 series as locomotive for the K. Bay. Staatseisenbahnen, sub-series d, the "Langbenige" with a driving wheel diameter of 2,000 mm. Livery number 3624. The later 18 441. As used around 1912.
