Manufacture de Gien, France; a hand-painted Renaissance Fond Bleu table lamp in faience and brass, ca. 1938–1960, with an E27 fitting, 34 cm tall, in excellent vintage condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
Gien France – Exclusive hand-painted table lamp – "Renaissance Fond Bleu" – France – 1938-1960.
A beautiful and rare earthenware table lamp from the world-renowned French manufacturer Manufacture de Gien. The lamp is executed in the brand's most sought-after and prestigious decoration: "Renaissance Fond Bleu".
This sumptuous decor is inspired by the Italian majolica style from the Renaissance. Against a deep, glossy cobalt blue background, a very detailed painting is applied with mythological figures, cherubs, sea creatures and graceful scroll motifs. The whole is rendered in lively ochre-yellow, orange and white tones.
At the bottom, the lamp base is fully and clearly marked with the official Gien stamp (used between 1938 and 1960). In addition, handwritten French text "Peint main" (hand-painted) and the personal initials of the master painter ('CP') are clearly visible.
The lamp is fitted with an authentic, patinated brass mount that completes the classic look. For optimal ease of use and maximum safety, the wiring, the gold-colored cable, and the push-switch have been skillfully renewed in the past. There is a standard screw fitting, making the lamp ready for use with modern (LED) lighting.
