Bambara Statute - Bambara - Mali (No reserve price)

Very large Bambara statue from Mali symbolizing abundance (a strong chest in an obus) of harvests or livestock, and honesty with hands open, turned forward (I have nothing to hide). The statue is very minimalist, which gives it great strength and modernity, with superb lines and cubist forms, a masterpiece of its kind. Note the beautiful dark brown patina due to the palm oil coatings, the forged nails for the eyes, and the geometric motifs on the chest and back that are the scarifications.

Given its size and quality, it is probably a chiefs’ or notable statue.
