Dance mask - Kumu - DR Congo

Mask of the Kumu whose pastillage bears the imprint of pygmy influence according to Marc Félix; African masks are produced by the clans living north of the Ituri region, predominantly adopting stylized features carved on a shallow base, and their decoration evokes the animal world, accompanied by pigments in colors similar to those that adorn bodies on initiation rites.
The Kumu, Bakumu live mainly in the northeast and the center of the DRC. Their Bantu language is Komo or Kikomo.
Several ethnic groups are closely interwoven, endowed with similar associations: the Mbole, the Yela, the Lengola and Metoko.
