Rare traditional 'bella portrait' tile from the Renaissance.

The workshops in Castelli (such as the Pompei family) were known in the 16th century for this type of portrait tiles.

Bella portraits in Italian Renaissance ceramics: it was a big trend to decorate plates and tiles with idealized female portraits.

Often a text band was added here with the name of the lady and the addition 'Bella'.
