Complete 6-person dinner service produced by Schumann Arzberg Bavaria in the 1970s.
The dinner service offered in the auction was made by Schumann Arzberg and decorated with an unusual design that sits halfway between Space Age style and Postmodern design. Probably datable to the mid-1960s, the bold and crisp decoration, with psychedelic twists and pop colors, is typical of those years and very widespread in the Central European Mitteleuropa area.
One of the main protagonists of the design saga in this historical phase is Hans Theo Baumann (1924-2016), a visionary freelance designer who, starting in 1954, designed porcelain objects for more than fifty German manufacturers, revolutionizing the language and style of German table porcelain. Baumann brought on plates and vases Op-Art style drawings that spoke a new language, highly appreciated for their vivid colors.
