Description from the seller
Lot of 2 Japanese NAGOMI Damascus knives – Seki, Japan
Description
A very beautiful lot consisting of two Japanese kitchen knives from the NAGOMI brand, presented in their boxes, and characterized by their superb Damascus-pattern blades.
The brand 和 NAGOMI is developed by Mitsuboshi Cutlery, a historic Japanese manufacturer based in Seki, in Gifu prefecture, one of the great Japanese knife centers.
The two knives feature blades crafted with very beautiful wavy Damascus-type patterns, as well as a particularly decorative hammered finish.
1. Large NAGOMI Damascus knife
The larger knife has a long, slender blade, with a remarkable Damascus pattern and a dark wooden handle, completed by a decorative ring.
Measured dimensions:
Total length: approximately 28 cm
Maximum blade width: approximately 3 cm
The knife is presented in its original box.
The blade shape is especially suited to cutting and preparing a variety of foods.
2. Small NAGOMI Damascus knife – Santoku
The second knife, with a red/brown handle, most likely corresponds to the NAGOMI Damascus Santoku, the brand’s flagship model.
Measured dimensions:
Total length: approximately 24 cm
Maximum width: approximately 3 cm
The officially marketed NAGOMI Damascus Santoku model features a Damascus construction of 33 layers, with a VG-10 core, and officially measures 31.5 cm overall with an 18 cm blade. The difference with the measurement taken here may stem from the exact measuring point or the version/reference of the photographed knife; it is therefore preferable to keep the actually measured dimensions for the sale.
Manufacture and materials
The NAGOMI Damascus range is known for its 33-layer Damascus steel blades with VG-10 core on the current Santoku model.
The manufacturer also indicates a full tang construction, the steel running through the handle, to achieve good solidity and an interesting balance.
The Santoku handle is made of reinforced wood with metal elements, while the large knife has a dark handle with a particularly elegant finish.
