They are two planters that embody that Italian design from the 1970s where ceramic and terracotta fuse to create objects with sculptural presence, warm, tangible, and with a natural, unforced elegance. Here, the material speaks first: terracotta, with its natural porosity and earthy tone, conveys a sense of origin, of a piece formed by hand; ceramic, smoother and more controlled, introduces the modern gesture that characterizes the decade.
Both are large, 36 × 24 cm, and that scale gives them an architectural air. They are not mere containers: they are volumes that occupy space with intention. The design plays with a very marked contrast between the rough lower half, almost as if carved or eroded, and the upper half, smooth, more serene, more geometric. That diagonal division that crosses each piece is a very seventies nod: a line that breaks classical symmetry and turns the planter into a design object, not just a functional one.
The thick edges and wide mouths reinforce the idea of Mediterranean solidity, while the lower texture adds character, shadow, and depth.
