Splendid and elegant ancient wooden sculpture finely hand-carved, depicting a putto (cherub) in a dynamic, sculptural pose. The figure rests on a base shaped like naturalistic rock and supports on its head a circular element originally used as a torch holder or candle bobèche. The work is distinguished by the beautiful, rich dark patina of the period (ebonized effect), typical of furnishings and decorative elements of the late 19th-century upper bourgeoisie. The anatomical details of the smiling face, the curls of the hair, and the drapery around the hips attest to the excellent quality of Italian craftsmanship, ideal for embellishing fireplaces, consoles, or antique tables, perfect both in a classical setting and as a contrasting element in a modern interior. It is in excellent preserved condition.
