Marc Held - Images 1950-1960 - 2009

Marc Held, recently deceased (July 2026), was one of the most creative designers/architects of the second half of the 20th century. He is notably famous for his Culbuto armchair.

His flâneur photos, seemingly ordinary in appearance, bear witness to a rural or suburban France, in his leisure moments or in his labors. His collection, modestly titled IMAGES, reappears with astonishing freshness, revealing a universe close to the France of Jacques Tati or Agnès Varda who, as it happens, slipped a few knowing words in his foreword. Without a publisher’s name, Images was, by all likelihood, published off the market, self-published, a probable explanation for the extreme rarity of this book, almost unobtainable despite its relatively recent publication (2009).
For the same reason, it seems practically unknown to photobook aficionados.
