Description from the seller

Icon of the Russo-Orthodox Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker – Tempera and Gilding on Panel. Ancient Russo-Orthodox icon depicting Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker (Saint Nicholas of Myra / Nicholas the Wonderworker), one of the most venerated saints in the Eastern Christian tradition.
Saint Nicholas is represented frontally in episcopal robes, with the right hand raised in the traditional blessing gesture and with the Gospel open in the left hand. The text on the book is rendered in Slavic-ecclesiastical characters.
On the sides of the central figure are depicted Jesus Christ and the Mother of God, in accordance with the traditional Russian iconography linked to Saint Nicholas.
The work is executed on a sturdy wooden panel with preparatory ground, gilded decorations, and rich ornamental motifs. Particularly interesting is the finely worked and punch-marked golden background, enriched by polychrome floral elements in shades of blue, green, white, and red.
The back preserves two embedded wooden crossbars in the panel, an element traditionally used in the construction of ancient icons to limit deformation.
In terms of stylistic, decorative, and construction characteristics, the work appears compatible with late 19th-century / early 20th-century Russian production.
Dimensions: approximately 31 × 26 cm
Thickness: approximately 2 cm
Material: wooden panel, preparatory ground, painting and gilding
Subject: Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker
The icon shows evident and fascinating traces of time: surface wear, small losses of color and gilding, abrasions and marks along the edges, as clearly documented in the photographs. Such imperfections are consistent with the age and history of the object.
No known recent restoration interventions have been carried out.
The photographs constitute an integral part of the description and show in detail the state of conservation of the work. Any duties, customs taxes, or other import charges are naturally the recipient's responsibility.
